It just happens to be written in this language, and it is a modestly 
complex piece of software, that has to cope with various situations.

That said, it should really only be useful for non-packaged software, as 
packaged software should really check for capabilities rather than 
against a distro though.

I'd really not spend too much energy on this package, but if anyone is 
motivated enough to rewrite lsb_release in another language, my all 
means go ahead (also commit+upload directly :-P ).
