That's true. The reason being that tgzed git trees are tgzed
zip trees while https://www.gnumed.de/downloads/client/
holds tgzs of releases.

If one wanted to generate (repro-build) a released tarball
one would pull the git tree, switch to the relevant
maintenance branch, set HEAD to the appropriate release tag
and run .../dists/Linux/make-release_tarball.sh
