I have worked with Yogeswaran Umasankar on Python packages, mostly new, but also some bug fixes, since mid-December 2023 and I consider them as having sufficient technical competence. As I wrote in Yogeswaran's advocacy for becoming a Debian Maintainer, they turned to me for sponsoring their new Python packages. Every time I found the packages to be in a really good shape, with autopkgtest and attentively composed debian/copyright. I pointed out venues for improvement, and Yogeswaran attentively implemented changes according to them. In addition, Yogeswaran helped me in fixing a pair of longstanding Python transition bugs in packages I maintain. Yogeswaran helped a lot in updating python-fabio to new upstream release by carefully test-rebuilding all the reverse dependencies. I believe Yogeswaran would make a great addition to Debian Developers caring about scientific packages, in particular chemistry and electronics.
