Penguin Day 04 -- Register Now for the Nonprofit Open Source Forum

Penguin Day 04 is filling up!  Our early bird registration deadline is 
coming up as well, so register at www.penguinday.org/registration.html.

The first-ever Penguin Day on March 28, 2004 in Philadelphia brings 
together free and open source software (F/OSS) developers and non-profit 
technology staff for a day of learning and conversation.  See 
www.penguinday.org.

Penguin Day 04 is a venue for YOU, the key stakeholders in the development 
and adoption of F/OSS specifically for nonprofits, to meet, share, and 
learn about development processes and nonprofit software needs.  You are 
the experts--nonprofit staff, eRiders, technology assistance providers, and 
developer communities-- and have made yourselves available to present, 
discuss, brainstorm, learn, and teach.  Thank you!  You are truly amazing.

Here is what's happening so far:

*A round-table conversation about a nonprofit f/oss project from inception 
to development to rollout and support (how do we figure out what we need, 
how do we build it, and how do we support it, once built?)
*Workshops on:
** Leveraging resources and volunteers from the IT community
** Lessons learned from developing a web translation application: A 
real-life open source development story
** The things you always wanted to know about different f/oss licences but 
never dared to ask
** Using use cases to engage stakeholders early on in the process
** The business case:  how to finance a free and open source project, 
market it, and make it live sustainably.
** Mapping the nonprofit free and open source space:  Who is who and who is 
doing what?
** For nonprofit technology assistance providers: How do we engage 
developers in implementing f/oss on the ground?  What works and what doesn't?
** For developers: So, how does it work on the ground?  Understanding how 
providers work with orgs on f/oss or why are intermediaries important?
** So what do we need as a sector:  An exploration of the MISSING open 
source apps
** Iterative development:  what is it and why do it?
** Emerging technologies and how to leverage them for f/oss projects
** F/OSS by women for women: Developing a network
** Resources for f/oss development you can work with:  Savannah, Free 
software directory, Sourceforge, Freshmeat etc
