All, The Fourth Annual Debian Conference (Debconf) is happening between the 28th May and 2nd June and the Fifth International Free Software Forum (FISL) between 2nd and the 5th June.Specific details need confirming but fitting around these two events will be a Debian-NP mini-conference. So far chatting on IRC has identified some relevant areas which could be discussed or developed. These are: CUSTOMISING DEBIANS This could consist of building a custom livecd or simply using or installing Debian-NP/Morphix. We might be able to set up something specific for NP organizations. There are a few ideas on the wiki (wiki.debian.net/index.cgi?DebianNonProfit) that could be used or extended for use with the livecd. ...this opens up a talk about CUSTOM DEBIANS AS A FOCAL POINT FOR COOPERATION AND CREATIVITY The core of the talk is showing how Custom Debians does tricks with externalities. When you work on a custom debian, you improve free software, and thus generate positive externalities. These externalities won't get lost, however, because a custom Debian is a Debian; so Debian collects all these externalities from all the Custom Debians. All these collected externalities, will then undergo creative networking effects inside Debian, bringing advances that the Custom Debians alone would not have done .And since a Custom Debian is 100% Debian, improvements in Debian are also improvements in the Custom Debian. This means that Debian-NP acts like a point of entry for cooperation and creativity which talks very much to to the Non Profit world. DEBIAN-NP IN BRAZIL Focussing on the political and cultural climate surrounding FLOSS in Brazil this talk outlines the potentials and the obstacles for Debian-NP use in Brazil. NGO REALITIES...HOW TO USE TECHNOLOGY TO REALLY HELP PEOPLE'S LIVES Metareciclagem is a concept about developing and using social technology aimed at [ações em rede - networked action? net action? action in network? :( ]. In the last year and a half we've been developing new ways to use technology to foster collaboration, alternate economic cycles and to strengthen local culture and integrate it in an interconnected world. FREE SOFTWARE USE AMONG ORGANISATIONS WORKING FOR SOCIAL JUSTICE This includes case studies and relevant examples with a global perspective We have a 'small' limited budget available for this as a couple of organisations have offered to help out financially,so we should be able to help get valuable people to the event. Something which would be very useful for people unable to attend would be to try to web cast some of it . We have been offered the use of a Debian server at muda.radiolivre.org as a broadcast point and if anyone would like to mirror this it would help out. I will re-post to the list with the confirmed timetable and list of facilitators but until then more info is available here: http://wiki.debian.net/index.cgi?DebianNPFISLMeeting or on IRC Regards Ian Gente, Debconf acontecer no 28 Maio - 2 Junho e FISL no 2 Junho - 5 Junho.
