I do not have a particularly significant stake in this discussion nor a
strong opinion one way or the other. However, I have known Paul Sutton
for many years and can vouch for his goodwill. Paul's writing is
anything but drivel; the unfortunate reality is that there are political
events outside of Debian's control that are causing veteran Debian
contributors to feel unsafe online or in the real world. That is a
concern for the sustainability of the Debian project regardless of the
nature of these events, or of the fact that we can not directly address
them.

My question would therefore be: what can the Debian project do to ensure
that affected contributors remain able to engage with the Debian
community whilst feeling safe?
