I think the severity was a bit overblown (as deviations from upstream
go, this doesn't really make it very far onto the radar).  But perhaps
you're right that it's time to get rid of it - I had a look through
https://codesearch.debian.net/search?q=%5Cbslogin%5Cb&literal=0&perpkg=1
and didn't find anything too concerning.
