When installing knoppix on hd, you can make the partitions before 
running the installer, but leave the partitions unallocated (unformated) 
or format them in Fat. But do not format the partition in whatever linux 
filesystem. If you run the installer, cfdisk or qtparted wil ask you 
what filesystem the partition must be formated and will do it for you.
