Some of that really old versions of knoppix could probably run on this.
but you would never get happy with it, cause that would be too slow with
uptodate software. So just try some other minilinux which doesn'nt need to
much memory. A good start for a linux distribution may be
http://lwn.net/Distributions/ (or google ;-)).

If you can get some cheap memory for that box (at least additional 64 Meg)
you could run actual knoppices on that notebook. Just creat a (single)
FAT16 Partition covering the whole HDD. copy the contents of the CD to
that FAT-Partition and configure syslinux accordingly (can either take the
config from isolinux (on the newer knoppices) or from syslinux on the
boot.img. works fine for me on some older boxes of my friends who have 64
Meg/1GHDD Pentium classic. But don't expect that stuff to be fast :-).
