Setting an environment variable for the init in FreeBSD

Hi all,
in linux I can set a parameter in the kernel command line, like for
example runitdir=somedir , and it will be added to init's environment.
Will this work with a FreeBSD kernel? If not, is there a way to achieve
the same result?
