Considering that kernel and toolchain support is commonly paid for by 
the hardware vendors, it does not come as a surprise that this support 
declines with the deprecation of the architecture.

Also, people volunteering for kernel and toolchain support for a certain 
architecture are usually more interested in working on the current 
version of that arch and not for something obsolete.

I do understand that users expect toolchain and kernel support to "just 
appear" out of thin air, but in practice it is a considerable effort to 
keep bit rot away from the parts of code that are needed to keep older 
architectures running. You need motivation and money to facilitate that.
