Why not post the necessary commands to append to the kernel command line here?

On a GRUB-based systems, it should be enough to add the following line

	video=offb:off video=radeonfb:off video=nouveaufb:off radeon.modeset=1 nouveau.modeset=0

to the variable GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT and then run "update-grub".

FWIW, you won't need the nVidia-specific parameters on a system with a Radeon card
and vice versa.
