I would try to manually mount the USB to /cdrom by using a console (CTRL-Alt-F2, CTRL-Alt-F3, Alt-F2, Alt-F3) Something like mount /dev/sdb1 /cdrom I don’t know the device name, so sdb1 could be something else.
