Recommend:  Hopefully this will work for your t5240 as well, since this 
machine is very similar.

1) Dimms are installed in sets of 8 or 16 with each dimm having the same 
part and revision number.

T5140:

"Samsung M395T5160QZ4-CE66 0819" same set of 8 dimms - each is 4GB 
(no-mismatching dimms - works on my t5140).

"Samsung M395T5160QZ4-CE66 0819" same set of 16 dimms - each is 4GB 
(no-mismatching dimms - works on my t5140).

T5120:

"Samsung M395T5160QZ4-CE66 0816" same set of 8 dimms - each is 4GB (no 
mis-matching dimms - works on my t5120 (haven't tried it on t5140)

  "Samsung M395T5160QZ4-CE66 0819" same set of 8 dimms - each is 4GB (no 
mis-matching dimms - works on my t5120 (haven't tried it on t5140)

"Samsung M395T5160QZ4-CE66 0819" same set of 16 dimms - each is 4GB 
(no-mismatching dimms - works on my t5140).

Samsung seems to work for me.  Which dimms are you using? Provide a 
make, model, part numbers, and revision numbers?

The message "error updating configuration variable. no space list, check 
SP and other logs" on a Sun SPARC Enterprise T5240 typically means the 
firmware's configuration storage has run out of space and can't save 
changes. This is a critical issue that can prevent the server from 
booting properly. The "SP" refers to the Service Processor, which is the 
independent management unit that controls the server's core functions.


Cause and Solution:
This error often indicates a problem with the firmware's internal 
filesystem, specifically the part that stores the OpenBoot configuration 
variables. This can be caused by:

Firmware Corruption: The firmware itself may have been corrupted, 
leading to an inability to write new data.

Corrupted or Missing Storage: The internal storage device for the 
Service Processor may be faulty or have a corrupted partition.

The recommended course of action is to update the server's firmware to 
the latest version. This will often reformat and rewrite the internal 
storage, resolving any corruption issues.

Troubleshooting Steps
Access the Service Processor (SP): Connect to the server's SP via the 
network (if configured) or the serial management port.

Check SP Logs: Log in to the SP and run the command show events or show 
logs to get more detailed information about the error. The log entries 
will provide additional context, such as which specific variable the 
system was trying to update when the error occurred.

Update Firmware: Download the latest firmware package for the T5240 from 
the Oracle support site. I would not recommend preserving any ilom 
settings.  Use defaults.


4) Ensure you populate each dimms on the t5240 motherboard, following 
the guide in the previous email or populating all dimms at D0.  Unsure 
if you have the extra memory card for 32 total dimms?  Note: I don't 
have that on my T5140, so you may want to use the primary dimms on the 
motherboard first.


5) Last resort: If after a firmware update and using defaults. If your 
motherboard is very dusty, recommend turning off the system and using 
"air" (be careful) to clean dust.  Also recommend carefully pulling each 
dimm from the motherboard. Then clean contacts for each dimm with a 
pencil eraser to ensure no dirt.
