cygwin DLL, how are these handled with libtool?

Hi,

I might be wrong to post this question here, but I could get some answers here?

I have gathered that DLLs in cygwin require some special treatment in source,
such as __declspec(dllimport).

How is it handled with libtool ? Does libtool define some symbols when 
compiling cygwin DLLs ? Or are people patching libtool locally ?

I've been looking around for sources, but I don't seem to be able to find 
promising information.
