I hope in many many years since the touchpad in my newish thinkpad is not
supported in wayland and by the looks of it will never be supported.
I'd understand if we were talking about unknown and/or old hardware, but new
and mainstream being unsupported (and requiring me to manually install
synaptics and remove libinput to work) seems like it might put off a number of
users.

Well eventually the fix to pulseaudio was to entirely drop it and use pipewire
instead. Not every new thing is necessarily the correct solution it seems.

This works for me, it even changes the volume automatically. But it has some
bugs with remembering settings and when you have HDMI audio + jack + bluetooth
audio and you want to choose it's a complete mess.
