A clean system is for most people a >requirement. shortly after new install, I found that some packages and libraries are NOT marked as automatically installed. Also, I often use aptitude and I have few times noticed that packages lost their auto-installed status. Luckily it can be easily fixed in aptitude. I have no idea when this happend but it happened a few times. as a result I often go manually through package lists and manually mark packages as auto-installed. They are mostly -data, -common, -base and libraries, but I often mark auto-installed packages other packages depend on.
