When gnus hangs, can you use "C-g" to cancel the hanging operation? If
so, you can get a backtrace of the hanging function for debugging: You
can enable debug-on-quit by "M-x toggle-debug-on-quit", wait for the
next hang, press "C-g", and you'll get a backtrace in another buffer to
see what is the last function that is hanging. You can paste the content
of that buffer here to help debugging.
