Yes, I advocate/befriend this idea! I now, in this days try/probe make the GoboLinux up-to-date, via LFS! A "GFS" book (Gobo From Scratch) very good idea! Actually, I am almost finish with a commandline-system, but sorry, without the GoboHide kernelpatch, and I have curious problems with the new Ncurses. (Maybe this is not my error, but, I think, a bug). Later, of course, I need freshen also the graphical environment (Xorg and other stuff) too. But first, I agonize/labour with the ncurses, as I wrote this to this mailing list in my previous email.
