Good point.

I think Benjamin also makes a good point. One vendor may have several
packages. I'm not really convinced that vendor even needs a directory? The
Gobo layout of /programs/program-name/ seems much more direct/useful.

So that thought brings into question the name /org/ (organization). Is
there a problem of organizations releasing software with the same software
title? That's the only reason why I would think organization directory
would be necessary. When considering 3rd party software, perhaps it is
necessary... hmmm.

Also you've mentioned the Conary package system. It's been a long time
since I explored it, but I remember it being a very intelligent packaging
system. With 0install, I believe its use is not intended to be a default
package manager. I believe most packages use static library linking, which
can be really bad system performance.

I agree that hashes are powerful. You'll get no argument there. My point
was only like you said, they are a big eye sore. So long as that is taken
into account, I agree the best decision should be made either way.
