Ah! Well, that answers the question in my other posting.

I hope I don't offend anyone because I just want to express how I feel
about Windowed operating systems.

1, The best was Windows NT 3.51. It's been steadily downhill since then.
I'm almost kidding about this ...almost. I was working at Intel as a
system architect at the time Microsoft invented Active-X as a means to
bypass the call gate security mechanism to enable kernel drivers to be
installed directly from user-land. We were horrified and warned
Microsoft not to do it. That decision led directly to root kits which
led to root kit viruses. I realize I'm not talking about Linux, but no
Linux that I've seen has half the functionality of Windows. Sorry, but
Linux is a hack. That doesn't stop me from using Linux (I'm writing this
in a Linux Mint+Xfce guest running in VirtualBox inside Windows 7), but
Linux will never be a well-integrated operating system.

2, I cannot live with Enlightenment. I've compiled my complaints & a
wish list:

Enlightenment has no contextual help.
Instead, I want contextual help available for each window, each dialog.
And I want the ability to add my own notes to the help dialogs. If an
application has no contextual help, I want the OS to add a help button
to the title bar that hoists a contextual help note of my own design.

Rolling over icons provoke pop-ups.
I find this to be incredibly irritating. I want rollovers to do nothing
at all.

Applications launch on single-click.
Instead, I want single-clicks to select, double-clicks to launch. For
applications that do not behave that way, I want the OS to provide a
wrapper that enforces my desired behavior.

There are icon bars in lieu of menus.
Instead, I want menus, only. I don't want icons at all. Also, I want the
ability to change the text of menu items. Also, I want the ability to
add my own notes as menu items.

There is no system menu.
Instead, I want a menu system that has unlimited hierarchical levels. In
addition to links that launch applications, I want the ability to add links
that point to local data files and to on-line content that automatically
opens them when they are double-clicked.

If the process that has the focus is blocked, I want the OS to take
control of the cursor and display the 'busy' cursor.

I want all applications to be prevented from stealing the focus.

I don't want special effects, transitions, compositing, or whatever you
call it. I want my OS ugly and brilliant, not pretty and stupid.

Just my thoughts. I know they will be rejected. YMMV.

I really like the concept of GoboLinux. I've been using Linux Mint for a
few months. As with all Linux flavors, the way files are sprayed across
the disk drives me postal. I thought of using hardlinks to straighten
things out, then discovered Gobo has already done it. But it appears
that Gobo is just trying to be yet another pretty face. I'm looking for
real improvements in functionality. I run a computer, not a cell phone.
I'll probably be moving on.
