Thanks Jean-Roch, but if I want to try WindowMaker, for example, how do
I do it?

When I launch Synaptic and submit "WindowMaker", in the resulting list,
if I select 'wmaker' and pretend that I want to install it, Synaptic
says I need to also install 'libwings2' & 'libwraster3' & 'libwutil3' &
'wmaker-common'. Is it that simple? Or is that a path to disaster. The
reason I ask is that I need to be cautious because I have a history of
doing things that software developers don't expect.

...When I lived in Silicon Valley, my programmer friends would give me
their software to play with because if I didn't break it, it was
unbreakable. I didn't try to break their code. I'd just play with their
application "...Hmmm... What happens if I do 'this' _before_ I do
'that'? What if I do them at the same time? And what happens if I hit
the keyboard key for 'x' at the same time I'm selecting 'y' with the
mouse?..." I wouldn't intentionally try to break their code, and I
wouldn't have to struggle with it. Their carefully tested code would
break almost immediately when I got my hands on it. I guess I'm just
good at doing unexpected things. I didn't care what the code actually
did, I'd just play the application like a video game. People said I
should be a beta tester, but I was making way too much money designing
hardware. (I think my talent had something to do with designing hardware
...fixing bugs after the hardware has been fabricated gets very
expensive, even when the hardware is a preproduction prototype, and in
25 years, only one thing I designed needed a couple of cuts & jumpers,
and that was because of ambiguous documentation from a particular chip
manufacturer.)

A rhetorical question you can't answer but that someone _should_
address: Why am I not given a UI choice? Why has someone decided I need
Enlightenment? ;-!

Ciao - Mark.
