My understanding of GoboLinux is that there are 2 main driving factors and an accessory one. [1] A human-readable directory layout, with single directories holding whole-application bundles. [2] As a secondary consideration, a human-readable layout *inside* those app bundles. [3] Isolation between apps. Because all of an app lives inside its directory, removing an app is as simple as deleting that folder. Containers could deliver 1 and 3, with a ready-rolled, standard, cross-distro mechanism.
