It's both cool and strangely scary at the same time (to me). Scary that someone wants to do so in shell scripts :) Awesome that it is (and can be done). I myself use bash mostly as a "glue" towards my ruby scripts. zsh is the better shell but I have settled for bash mostly due to simplicity and of course me being lazy. If I need functionality I'd never use shell scripts (aside from any legacy reasons); I'd use ruby. Same for GUIs, where I would use ruby-gtk normally (though the bindings are not that great, but the biggest advantage is that I don't have to invest too much time into any of it). GoboLinux has AbsTK which I felt was a nice idea ( https://github.com/gobolinux/AbsTK ) Write once; get everything. :P Like ... have code work for ... terminal, including ncurses, and some kind of GUI (no matter which one or what).
