That's exactly what I do not want. I want a bunch of stone plugins that
easily interact with the rest of the system.

Why do I have to check if LVM is in my kernel? Why do I have to take
care that chroot/pivot_root finds the stuff it needs? Make the
responsible package take care of that!
Why do I have to have LVM and device-mapper statically in my kernel? Why
can't I use modules for that?

When I go to iso.rocklinux.de I find a small 15MB rescue.iso. So, does
that mean that this isn't ROCK functionality but third party?

Sorry that I can only give feedback on this now, I never used LVM
myself. I had a look at the site
http://scavenger.homeip.net/rockdoc/RescueSystem
which hardly mentions anything. No hands-on example on how to extend it
and no example on how to use it (screenshots, recorded script, anything).

Before I started writing the mkinitrdnew.sh stuff I had a look at
target/rescue but really couldn't find a way of doing what I wanted to
do. Then I looked at ROCKDoc and couldn't find something, either. So I
wrote what you see in submaster now.
