It's been a bit (three months) since the last update on the filesystem encryption and a usable initrd concept. Here's the latest update: - now uses udev this means your host system must be on a working udev /dev filesystem - uses device mapper instead of loop-aes yes, this means no more patching of your kernel :) To use: Compile your kernel with dm-mod, dm-crypt and aes-i586 as modules. The dm-* modules are in Device Drivers -> RAID The aes-i586 can be found in the Cryptography options. Install the package "device-mapper". In stone, use the menu "DeviceMapper configuration" to setup your encryption: Select "Add new device" and follow the menu. Then run "mkinitrdnew.sh" and add the file /boot/initrdnew-<kernel>.img to your bootloader as usual. Then reboot and follow the instructions on the screen. Please give it a try and give some feedback. See earlier mails for more information on the overall initrd concept. I'd also like to make this the usual way of creating an initrd in ROCK if there are no problems with anyone.
