Stop in stage 2

Hi all

OK, got pasted earlier problems, yes in trying to get around the 'junk 
at end of line' problem I had tried a cross build, forgot about it.

Now packages in stage 2, starting with binutils, all abort with no 
messages and an empty log file.

The seem to be independent of both target and optimization as I toyed 
the generic target with PIII optimization and the install target with no 
optimization (x86).

I will take a look to see what I find, but thought I would mention it 
here first in case anyone has already dealt with this.
