There are still a lot of opinions about this:
- 3.0
- Revision number only
- witty subtitle yes/no

I know people are afraid of 'suggesting compatibility' if we use the
major.minor system. I think there are two things that speak out against
changing it to something else:
- We already have this versioning scheme, so we should stick to it
  I still remember when Linux switched from "even minor == stable" and
  "odd minor == unstable" to "2.6 is completely unstable" and the resulting
  confusion.
- We can just name the next release 4.0 :-)
