Hi all,
the update to X.Org X11R7.1 is already usable and complete, afaics. You might
want to apply all patches from the X.Org X11R7 update queue and give it a
try. Don't forget to remove the libxtrans and xorg packages afterwards,
before building anything.
I've found only one showstopper so far: xorgcfg and X -configure don't work.
On my machine and in qemu, both only leave a black screen and don't produce
any xorg.conf file. At least I could still reboot with Ctrl-Alt-Del...
I probably don't have to tell you that this sucks big time :/
So the only way to get a working xorg.conf was to adapt the one from my
X11R6.9 installation: the RgbPath must now look like
RgbPath "/usr/X11R6/share/X11/rgb"
and the ModulePath, if set, must point to
ModulePath "/usr/X11R7/lib/xorg/modules"
Also make sure that you have the line
<dir>/usr/X11R7/lib/X11/fonts</dir>
in /etc/fonts/local.conf (and run fc-cache afterwards), or else all characters
will appear as squares in KDE... Of course this is already done in my update
patches.
Btw. the new location of Xorg.*.log files is /usr/X11R7/var/log/.
Have fun,
Stefan Fiedler
