I probably don't have to tell you that this sucks big time > :/ This bug appeared on my x86 box and could be fixed by uninstalling all xf86-video-sun* packages. As X -configure and xorgcfg load all video drivers in turn, it seems that at least one of these sparc specific drivers causes the programs to hang. A proper fix is in submaster by now.
