We decided against this - and do this implicitly by storing the
checksum of the package paramter source (the $confdir content without
.cache file). We archive the same, in a more reliable, automatic way.
Example snip from Create-UpdList on the iBook I just type:
sed: New version (4.0.8 -> 4.0.9).
gzip: New source checksum (8bf4e7e10144d525c7b9cd6a9e7040ce).
