Glibc 2.3 can only be compiled with an gcc release greater or equal than gcc 3.x. So if you want to use a system with a gcc 2.x you only can use glibc 2.2.5. If yo want to compile a glibc 2.3.x than you need a gcc 3.x compiler to do that. Cheers, Michael Obster
