i can't promise this as i don't know the specifics of this powerbook, but
you can try out the livecd (http://www.rocklinux.org/livecd.html), it has
a folder on it you can get instructions from on how to boot it on oldworld
mac's - though you need to have mac os installed to get that working. It's
the BootX approach, if you know what i'm talking about.

the oldworld cd bootblock is protected by copyright laws and not to be
redistributed - though it can easily be stripped off any mac os 7/8/9 cd
and used for private matters (given your countrie's laws permit that).

please keep me posted on your results.

if installing a small mac os is not an option for you, i have a task on my
todo regarding a boot diskette (the diskette boot loader code is pretty
straight forward), which could be made availible seperately from the
livecd.

if the livecd works, there is a good chance you can get a working system
onto that laptop, but you'll have to twiddle with quik (the bootloader for
hard-drives) and devfs (maybe create device-nodes by hand with ln -s or
so) because quik is not devfs aware and the development is stalled.

good luck and have fun,
