Hello, I'm in some despair. Have a nice old ss20 with 2 hypersparc 150, 512M RAM, fast scsi, extra 100m ethernet, etc. And am having a devil of a time trying to get a somewhat current version of Linux on it. The only distro I'm able to boot and install is debian stable. But that puts me w/ older 2.2.20 kernel and older libc6. I cannot upgrade past that to testing or unstable because of the problematic circular dependencies. (newer kernel requires newer libc6, newer libc6 requires newer kernel, new aptitude which is supposed to maybe be able to break through that logjam requires new libc6, and dpkg --force-all --install blat is still balking) I've already installed debian stable on this box twice recently trying to push it past 2.2 kernel into 2.4/2.6 space (and yes, I know smp may not function there). I've tried following their current doc for how to upgrade to new stable (i.e. testing now) to no avail. Linux From Scratch requires a 2.6.x kernel host env on the target box. So stuck there. Gentoo is not supporting sparc32 at the moment, which is what I run on my athlon system. Aurora doesn't boot, and I've tried reburning the CDs several times as slow as I can make my DVD/CD burner go. Any chance I could bootstrap ROCK onto this box? Or is it time for me to use it to hold up a corner of my house instead of one of the concrete blocks? Clues appreciated. Thanks!
