For such a system, it would be good to have a look at the LVP target.
LVP is a system with Xorg, mplayer and a bit of other stuff that weighs in at
currently 25 MB. And it runs completely in RAM. This should be an ideal starting
point for you.

Hmm, I'm afraid I haven't written this yet :(
Basically, it works like this:
Get the CD Image, loop mount it, install the packages manually (there should be
a binary called "mine" somewhere in the bootdisk-* directory that can be used
for it). Then chroot into the newly installed system, mount /dev (udev) /proc
/sys, call cron.run and call stone for the rest.
I'll try to add a sophisticated installation manual for this way to
http://doc.rocklinux.org/ this weekend.
