You can easily check that because after reboot, the initrd encrypts the
filesystem. It also asks you for a passphrase.
The encryption takes some time (on 256MB a few minutes, on 40 GB a few hours).
Anyway, could you pass me some information to help me analyze the problem?

The file /boot/grub/menu.lst
The file /etc/conf/dm/mounts
Your kernel version.
And the output of
ls -l /boot/
