thanks for you very correct documentation.
The vgchange in /etc/rc.d/init.d/system is inside an
'if [ -s /etc/lvmtab ]' block; /etc/lvmtab, /etc/lvmtab.d and
/etc/lvmconf are no longer used with LVM2 and should be removed. In
this case the vgchange with LVM syntax will not be run. Thus I do
not bother modifying /etc/rc.d/init.d/system and just add a line
'/sbin/vgchange --ignorelockingfailure -ay' to the end of
/etc/conf/devfs.

Those who wish to try dm and LVM2 are advised to use the series
of kernel patches from <http://people.sistina.com/~thornber/dm/>.
For people dual-booting 2.6 and 2.4 there is a backport of the device-
mapper available for 2.4. In addition to that, LVM2 can make use of
LVM1 metadata volume groups. Device-mapper should be considered
experimental in any case, and some functionality from LVM is not
yet available for LVM2 (e.g., pvmove).
