FYI, our machines are 2.4GHz Xeons, so I don't think processor speed is
necessarily a factor. Interesting to see that quite a few people are
having this problem, though.

This are the same as us, and are the latest versions AFAIK.

I *thought* we had, in that we thought it was a combination of faulty
disks + faulty firmware. Given your information, this seems not to be
correct now.
