I was able to boot off the slack 9 boot disk and do an installation,
but it was definitly not very straight forward.

I don't remember the exact procedure I used but I know there was some
compilation on a different computer and ftping of some files over before
I had even begun the installation of the OS.

If you notice on the boot CD the AACRAID driver is listed as a "module"
in the config info for most of the boot kernels. This is no good for
booting up with AACRAID support, but that means you can compile the kernel
for your destination machine on a different PC and ftp over the AACRAID
module.

If you insmod that you can mount your drives and begin a slack 9
installation.

After the install completes though, don't forget to ftp over a fully
compiled
kernel or you won't be able to access your drives on reboot as the module
can't
be loaded from a volume that is inaccessable :)

The hard part I think was getting ftp to work from the CD-ROM boot. I had
to
symlink to the mounted cd-rom and update the ldconfig info so that ftp could
find the right librairies. I don't remember if I ended up truly using ftp
or
if I had to use a secure SCP copy or something else that transferred files
over
the network.

Hope some of that helps. Otherwise you could just make a boot-CD on a
different
machine with proper support compiled in I suppose :)

Subject: slack 9 boot disk

Has anyone created a bootdisk for the aacraid driver for slackware 9?

I know about this site which has a great disk for Slack 8.0.

http://www.alphacent.com/opensource/indexang.html This disk has the driver
for
the raid card and the scsi cdrom.

I appreciate any help. By the way, I am not on the list so please cc me.

Thanks,
Dhaval
