HP NetRAID-4M / Hitachi DK32CJ-36MC

Hello, I am running Red Hat's 2.4.18-18.8.0 athlon-smp kernel with these 
hardware:

* HP NetRAID-4M 128MB, (HP's 4628 firmware)
* Container 0: RAID0 of (2) Hitachi DK32CJ-36MC drives. ( /boot , / , and 
swap)
* Container 1: RAID0 of (5) Seagate ST336752LC drives  ( /www )

All filesystems are ext2, except swap.
During high I/O activity such as compiling packages, the system freezes and 
the drives lights begin to flash at full speed.. (as if some kind of 
consistency check)

Anyway, that's it.. The system has frozen hard, and theres no other solution 
but to powercycle the box.. the NetRAID LED's indicate that it is still 
running.

Hitachi drives have latest firmware, H008, yet I heard of some problems with 
Hitachi 36GB drives and NetRAID-4M. Can anyone confirm this.

Other questions:

* Is it safe to use 256MB DIMM with this card ? Currently using 128MB
(After trying 512MB DIMM, I got an error from the card saying 64MB, 128MB, 
and 256MB max. are supported. HP has yet to offer a 256MB DIMM for this 
product.)

* Can I flash a NetRAID-4M with Dell PERC firmware ?
* Can swap exist on the same RAID0 container as /boot and /  ?
* Has anyone else experienced this problem - freezing with the aacraid 
module ?
* What about HP's driver? It supports Red Hat 7.1, apparently


(I have tried changing the sync from 160 to 80 , in <CTRL-A>. It hasn't 
helped)

There is absolutely no problem with the Seagates.
