Hello

I have similar problem and not only In RAID-5. Also on machines with only two disk bays and RAID-1 adaptec does not start rebuilding disk automatically. Here is what I observed regarding this:

When I tried to remove one disk from the working array...and insert it again after some amount of time (half an hour, 2 hours) it rebuilded automatically. But when I took this disk into another machine and performed low level format it does not rebuil autoamtically. The same situation is when I replace broken hdd to new one. It also doesn't rebuild. Sometimes restart helps and adaptec starts to rebuil the array afer reboot. Why? I work in data center...we have customers in colocation (for example) so we take care only for hardware...there is no possibility to log in to such a machine and use AACLI to force rebuilding. I have upgraded firmware of my Adaptec 2120 and seagate hard drives to newest one...it does not help. Some months ago someone told me that there are some firmwares for adaptec that starts rebuilding automatically...is it true? Can I get them?
Would you be so kind and help mi?

Dorneles...the only thing that I can tell you is that you have to run aacli and perform command "container rescan" or something like that. It (as help says) rescans SCSI bus and rebuilds internal data structures of raid card. After that rebuilding should start if not...perform: (disk must be initialized) "container 0 set failover (0,00,0)" for example I have add to container 0 first SCSI disk (channel 0, id 00, LUN 0) as failover. After about 5 seconds executing "task list" will show you that rebuilding task has been initiated.

Have a nice day ;-)

Subject: Raid 5 Missing Disk

Hi guys,

I'm getting problems after a disk crash on a RAID5 array. This
disk was changed by a new one and now the array isn't auto
rebuilding... :-(

Some background info:

AAC0> container list
Executing: container list
Num Total Oth Stripe Scsi Partition
Label Type Size Ctr Size Usage C:ID:L Offset:Size
----- ------ ------ --- ------ ------- ------ -------------
 0 RAID-5 68.3GB 64KB Open 1:00:0 64.0KB:34.1GB
 /dev/sda RAID 5 --- Missing ---
                                       1:02:0 64.0KB:34.1GB
AAC0> disk list
Executing: disk list

C:ID:L Device Type Blocks Bytes/Block Usage Shared Rate
------ ----------- -------- ----------- ------------- ---- ----
1:00:0 Disk 71687372 512 Initialized NO 320
1:01:0 Disk 71687372 512 Initialized NO 320
1:02:0 Disk 71687372 512 Initialized NO 320

And when I run:

AAC0> controller show automatic_failover
Executing: controller show automatic_failover
Automatic failover ENABLED

AAC0> container scrub 0
Executing: container scrub 0
Command Error: <The controller was unable to perform a scrub
(consistency check) operation on the container because one or
more of the container's partitions failed.>

Could someone enlighten me? Or point me to the right direction?

Thanks in advance... ;-)
