Some more news:

A technician from the remote data center where the server is located
just gave me a call. He said that the server's status display was
flashing orange, showing "HD FAILED E0D76"; all the HDD status LEDs are
green.

Now - is that a broken/bogus/unstable disk or a software problem? Loose
cabling? ... ?
