No luck yet.

After building a disk image with
dkms mkdriverdisk  -d redhat -m aacraid -v 1.1.4.2225 -k

I transferred the disk image to a diskette with
dd if=aacraid-1.1.4-2225-kernel2.4.18-3-(...)-dd.img of=/dev/fd0 bs=72k 
count=20

and booted the target  system from CD, with "text dd" (it hangs if I 
don't use text). But when I got to the point of reading the driver off 
the diskette, it told me that it was not a valid driver disk for this 
release of Red Hat.

I've dd'd the disk back to my hard drive and compared it with the 
original, and cmp shows no differences, so at least the diskette was 
written properly.

The file type of the image file is: x86 boot sector, system mkdosfs, FAT

Not sure how to proceed from here.
