We've been running the 2.6 kernels in production for some time now.
With Debian you can just backport binutils and modutils from unstable
into stable and have a "stable" install with 2.6.

Haven't had any lockup problems but then again the machines that are in
production aren't nearly under the load that our 2.4 boxes are.

Would love to know if you have any luck under load,
