We have bought Dell PowerEdge 2650 servers with the ROMB controller
Perc3/DI.

This machine is so powerful (2 x 2.8 GHz Xeon CPUs with hyperthreading
enabled), that the Linux software RAID5 is faster than the builtin
hardware RAID of the Perc3/DI controller.

In our case it is also much more stable because we are also
affected by problem 2 described in the following mail:
http://lists.us.dell.com/pipermail/linux-poweredge/2004-January/017589.html

I've heard that using the DC hw raid controller is a work-around
but spending another $$$ was no option for us.

Cheers,
Peter
