aacraid controller locks linux kernel

I maintain a package called 'smartmontools' for examining SMART data on
ATA and SCSI disks. The package is at http://smartmontools.sf.net/, and
is now part of all standard linux distributions.

Over the past year, we've had several reports that smartmontools causes
kernel hangs on systems with aacraid controllers. From:
http://cvs.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.py/smartmontools/sm5/WARNINGS?view=markup

SYSTEM: Dell servers using AACRAID (SCSI)
PROBLEM: Locked up, needed to be rebooted

Smartmontools makes only standard SCSI inquiries; would it be possible for
one of the aacraid maintainers to have a look and see if there is a simple
fix at either our end or your end?

You can get the smartmontools tarball from http://smartmontools.sf.net/ .
Running:
  smartctl -a /dev/sd?
should reveal the problem, and
  smartctl -r ioctl,3 -a /dev/sd?
will give a debug transcript of the low-level SCSI commands being issued.

Please let me know if you need more information.

Cheers,
	Bruce Allen
