Admittedly, I don't have a high load, but I take care of 2 PE1650s, both 
running stock kernel 2.4.20.
1 had an issue with bad memory last year that showed up clearly in the 
BIOS check. Apart from that and the fact that the hardware RAID 5 is a 
little slow, they have both behaved exceptionally well.
