use lsusb to check the devices attached to your system . the utput should look like this:

Bus 001 Device 003: ID 0204:6025
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 0000:0000

then use the ID to check that the device is suported (a list I used to check my card is here
http://at76c503a.berlios.de/devices.html)
that should clear up if the device is attached and has a chance of vorking with the driver.
