I've upgraded CRUX to 2.2 so I have lusb and udev now.
As suspected Device identifies as AIN COMM as follows

Found at76c50*.c occurrences' defines for ATMEL Vendor and Product location=
s, and=20
modules. usbmap includes multiple matching Vendor+Product matches pointing =
to=20
at76c503-rfmd, at76c505-rfmd, at76c503-i3861  and more... hoping to find a =
driver

Removed kernel_patch and ran make & make install instead of trying to get t=
he driver
 integrated into kConfig environment.

modprobe execution  (at76c505-rfmd) and wlan0 is available!
Warning: Driver for device wlan0 has been compiled with version 19=20
of Wireless extension, while this program supports up to version 17.
Some things may be broken. ---Presume this is a little dated IWCONFIG, and =
