I'd also be interested in your syslog with debug=-1 for the system hang (using usb-uhci) - try to switch to pseudo terminal 10 to watch it before you plug-in the WLAN device. usb-uhci worked fine here with 2.4.23 and a SMC2662W-AR :-/ /Jörg
